Until recently, this was one of a handful of biographies written about Susan B Anthony (something I find astonishing considering how highly she ranks as one of the most well-known American women). However, despite the many new Anthony biographies out there, Lutz's biography still stands out as one of the best. Through this biography, Anthony come alive and by the end, you feel very much like you know her personally. Anthony is shown in a balanced light--she was far from perfect, and Lutz does not gloss over and excuse any of her flaws, but neither is Anthony villified for them. It's a shame the book is now out of print and copies are so expensive. If you can get your hands on one, do so--you won't regret it. A good companion read is "Failure is Impossible: Susan B Anthony in her Own Words" by Lynn Sherr.
