(More customer reviews)This book provides an excellent and concise history of the mutual fund industry beginning with the first mutual funds created following the civil war up to the late 1980s. It discusses abuses by mutual funds during the market boom of the 1920s and the resultant legislation/regulation that was adopted in the ICA of 1940 and the 1970 amendments. Relevant litigation and summaries of court decisions are provided though 1987. The second half of the book provides a detailed econometric analysis of competition in the mutual fund industry. Policy implications resulting from the research are provided. This book is an excellent addition to any academic library and is a good read for anyone interested in conducting mutual fund research.
