(More customer reviews)As a teacher of technical writing for many years, I've been looking for a book that gives the basics of how to organize and present information in a way that doesn't intimidate readers. This is the book! It is an easy read with a plethora of guidelines and practical suggestions so that even the novice can "do it." In addition, the author's warm and approachable tone makes this a fun and easy read. But it also presents a unique blending of information including how to do an audience analysis, adult learning theory for the information designer, basic page layout, color use guidelines and more. I am using it for my college Document and Information Design class, and the students love it!

Information Design Desk Reference, approaches the design of information as simply communication. The point of view is that of people who do not have the skills or tools of a professional designer. When a poster, brochure, document or presentation needs to be prepared most people feel that they lack the ability to create what they need, to produce the kind of impact they know that their material requires. Graphic elements throughout the book complement the text with examples. It presents step-by-step approaches and methods for working through about everything from a brochure to a simple Web site-the book itself is a model of what it presents.
